Health, Resilience: Family Battle Buddies

Project abstract

The Family Battle Buddies Program (FBBP) aims to enhance family resiliency through family to family support during shared recreational therapy experiences in a weekend retreat format, with a 12-session online follow-up. The FBBP is hosted at Bradford Woods, Indiana University’s Outdoor Center, with Recreation Therapy provided. Such interventions aim to help families discover and develop skills to successfully navigate reintegration challenges. The FBBP online follow-up takes place once per month, with monthly modules pre-recorded on Voice Thread sent to families via email.

The evidence-based FBBP is guided by three theories/models: Walsh’s Family Resilience Framework, Social Comparison Theory, and Austin’s Reformulated Health Protection/Health Promotion model of Recreation Therapy.
