Project abstract
In the spirit of IU Cinema’s vision to make transformative and communal cinematic experiences available to everyone, along with IU Arts and Humanities Council’s dedication to creating exhilarating moments of discovery, this project is an effort to democratize film-going experiences throughout the communities of Indiana. Film as a medium can inspire empathy, social, and cultural change. As the late film critic Roger Ebert stated, “Film is an empathy machine.” Arts organizations also have the power to build community and be agents of positive economic change. The project provides the tools and talent to work with interested community partners to implement innovative monthly film screening/community-building opportunities as well as filmmaking workshops to empower visual storytellers to create their own work.
