Project abstract
The Linton Farmers’ Market is the only farmers market in Green County and one of a few vendors where local, fresh foods can be purchased in Greene County. The dominant food vendors are chain stores, such as Walmart and Dollar General, and fast food chains. The Linton Farmers’ Market has demonstrated its potential for growth by hosting more vendors and attracting more customers, while remaining resilient in the face of challenges such as location changes and other barriers to access for members of the community. With federal programs like SNAP, WIC, and SFMNP, the Linton Farmers’ Market sees more opportunity to engage customers using SNAP, and to engage volunteers and sponsors who can support the market with their time and financial resources. The Public relations campaigns class is developing a communication campaign to help the Linton Farmers Market (1) attract and engage more customers especially those using SNAP, (2) increase sponsorship for the Market and (3) generate support and patronage of the market among Green county residents.
