Salem, Ind. – Residents are invited to access free health services and explore wellness resources at the Washington County Wellness Fair at the Washington County Family YMCA on Saturday, April 9 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Attendees can participate in free health screenings that include blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose, and body mass index as well as hearing and eye screenings. Balance, gait, and food screenings, diabetes risk assessments, osteoporosis screenings and mental health assessments will also be available. Mental health resources, pharmacist medication review and naloxone kits and overdose prevention training will be offered on-site.
Select screenings for children and youth will be available for those accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The wellness fair will also include SNAP food program and Medicaid application assistance as well as information from Washington County WIC, First Steps, Healthy Families and the Nurse Family Partnership Program.
The first 125 attendees who complete screenings and a brief survey will receive a $5 Walmart gift card.
The fair will include resources from Ascension St. Vincent-Salem Hospital, Schneck Medical Center, Purdue Extension-Washington County, Washington County Tobacco Coalition, Hoosier Uplands, IU School of Public Health, LifeSpring Health Systems, CareSource, Meadow View Health and Rehabilitation, Traditional Arts Indiana Creative Aging Guide, Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program, Doctor Black’s Eye Associates, Anthem, United Health Care, Mosier Chiropractic and Salem Apothecary.
Free childcare will also be available from 10 a.m.-12 noon at the YMCA. To reserve childcare, contact Hailey Jackson at hailey@wcfmca.org in advance of the event. Free transportation is also available, provided by First Baptist Church, and reservations can be made at (812) 844-1471.
