Doug Frantz

Doug Frantz served as the former deputy secretary general of the Organization for Economic Cooperation from 2015 to 2018. He came to the OECD from the U.S. State Department, where he was Assistant Secretary of State of Public Affairs. Before joining the State Department, Frantz was a newspaper reporter and editor for more than 35 years, reporting from 40 countries and covering major conflicts including the first Gulf war and the Afghan war.

He was national security editor of The Washington Post, managing editor of the Los Angeles Times, and investigations editor at The New York Times. He was Istanbul bureau chief for The New York Times and shared a Pulitzer Prize for coverage of the aftermath of 9/11. He also is the author or co-author of 10 nonfiction books, ranging in topics from nuclear proliferation and international bank fraud to the Holocaust and new urban planning.


Frantz holds an M.S. from Columbia University and a B.A. from DePauw University.
