Our initiatives are designed with rural communities at the forefront to increase Indiana’s vitality. From increasing access to health and mental wellness to creating thriving rural places, we work alongside Indiana’s residents and leaders to strengthen our state.

We provide professional pathways for students, engaging students in meaningful, high-impact educational experiences and helping to retain talent in the state.

We support faculty in community-engaged and participatory research and creative activity that translates to improved outcomes and understanding in rural communities.

The Rural Placemaking Studio

Arts and culture

The studio addresses the state’s efforts to enhance quality of place, with a particular focus on rural communities. It also builds professional experiences for IU students who will make a direct—and visual—impact on our state.

Community resilience

In collaboration with the Environmental Resilience Institute, we are connecting rural communities with federal resources to strengthen environmental resiliency. The hub provides communities with environmental expertise in preparing competitive grant applications.

Health

The consortium represents a commitment to strengthen recovery efforts through short-term activities and long-term planning. DARAC's work is rooted in input from community residents in response to substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery needs.
