Veteran Trauma and Transparency Program

Veteran Trauma and Transparency Program

The Veteran Trauma and Transparency Program is an interdisciplinary workshop series offered to third- and fourth-year undergraduate and graduate students to increase awareness and knowledge of military culture and experiences for future service providers and improve the quality of care for veterans. This training will include exposure to sensitive content and personal stories.

Developed by the IU Interprofessional Practice and Education Center, the IU Center for Rural Engagement, the IU Department of Criminal Justice, and the IU School of Social Work, each workshop builds upon the next. Students are encouraged to attend all four workshops to maximize the learning experience. Students who complete all four workshops in the series will earn a certificate of completion from the Interprofessional Practice and Education Center.

The four-part workshop includes

  1. The Military Lens: Understanding the Culture and Veteran Population
  2. In Times of Service: Invisible Injuries and Wounds of Combat
  3. Finding Self Post Service: Challenges and Coping as a Civilian
  4. Do No Harm: Treatment and Intervention Resources to Promote Wellbeing
