Gus Grissom Trail App
Virgil I. "Gus" Grissom, born in Mitchell, IN, was the second American to enter outer space. The city of Mitchell worked with the CRE during the early stages of planning a multi-use trail from Grissom's boyhood home to his memorial in Spring Mill State Park. This Sustaining Hoosier Communities project connected classes in the School of Informatics and the School of Art, Architecture, and Design with the Lawrence County Tourism Commission. Informatics students installed pilot projects for solar powered trail counters, apps to monitor and maintain the trail, and a public facing web portal, while Art and Design students created designs and a "brand book" for educational signage.
