Modest House Affordable Infill Housing

IU Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture, and Design faculty member Jon Racek and the students in his collaborative design class created a housing plan to fit the available lots and character of Paoli, Indiana. Orange County high school students at Lost River Career Cooperative joined the effort as the construction crew and built a housing prototype. The house provides a replicable, energy efficient, modestly-priced (where carrying costs are at or below 30% monthly median income) house. The design of this housing prototype incorporates energy efficient strategies such as passive heating and cooling techniques, appropriate siting, and energy efficient windows.
