Parks and Recreation Feasibility and Implementation Recommendations Study: Lawrence County

The IU Center for Rural Engagement and IU Eppley Center for Parks and Public Lands worked with Lawrence County Parks and Recreation to develop a Feasibility and Implementation Recommendations Study. They collaboratively developed a document that: 1. Identified different levels of support for the County, local Township, and other organizations to lead and manage parks recreation and site maintenance. It included a county-wide assessment of park and recreation opportunities, marketing and branding approaches, strengths, limitations, and general financial scenarios. 2. Established finance and operational requirements for the access, use, maintenance and management of Avoca Fish Hatchery and Williams Dam Recreation Area. 3. Created a detailed analysis of the organization alternatives for Lawrence County and other units such as special districts, school districts, townships, and non-profits based on state enabling legislation, best practices, and similar organization history.
