Sustainability Course Development
This project supported the creation of “Creating Sense of Place through Design (SPH-R 221), a new undergraduate course in the Parks, Recreation, & the Outdoors (PRO) program in the Department of Health & Wellness Design, School of Public Health-Bloomington. The PRO major prepares professionals to enhance the quality of life of individuals and communities through careers related to parks, recreation, and the outdoors. Focusing on purposeful design, organizational management, and service delivery, students become successful in the public, non-profit, and private sectors, all under the umbrella of public health amplifying social justice, equity, access, and the pursuit of happiness. The PRO program is one of several that are part of the Indiana University (IU) Integrated Program in the Environment (IPE) along with the B. A. in Environmental and Sustainability Studies (BAESS). This course is highly experiential, takes place in primarily outdoor settings, and engages students with both theoretical and practical study.
