Beck's Mill Fiber Revival
This initiative partnered Friends of Beck's Mill in Washington County, Indiana with IU School of Art, Architecture, and Design, to organize and host a fibers festival. The event highlighted the mill's unique 1830s wool carding equipment and helped to broaden the audience of the mill by showcasing both historical and contemporary fiber practices. In conjunction with this event, the team also worked with the John Hay Center in Salem to highlight their collection of regional textiles, including quilts and woolen coverlets which will enrich visitors understanding of how the carding equipment was used historically. The concurrent events drew new visitors to both museums. In preparation for the event, the team worked to restore the carding equipment at the mill to make it safer to operate and to preserve it for future generations.
