Buffalo Trace Preservation Group

This project sought to identify, study, and interpret the existing heritage sites and cultural resources along the prehistoric and historic Buffalo Trace in the Hoosier National Forest in Orange County with the objective of its preservation in perpetuity through the creation of the Buffalo Trace Heritage Corridor Historic Preserve and Cultural Center (the Center) in the area. This knowledge will be disseminated to the public by the team through an online accessible story board and database with the assistance of the Monroe County Public Library and their Field Notes program and the USDA Hoosier National Forest Buffalo Trace story map. The information obtained from this effort was made accessible to researchers in early 2023 and will help guide further research towards the goal of establishment of the Center
