Health, Sustaining Hoosier Communities, Resilience, Quality of Place: Indiana Rural Community Health Collaborative

Project abstract

The aim of this collaborative is to enhance the health and well-being of the people living and working in rural Indiana, specifically the 11 Southwest Central counties known as the Hoosier Uplands Region, by working in partnership with community to reduce the burdens of chronic disease. The goals of the collaborative include engaging undergraduate, graduate, and professional students with faculty, community partner organizations and members in research, teaching and service within these communities to (1) foster health understanding and wellness, (2) promote and maximize community use of local natural resources and public lands to increase physical activity, (3) contribute thru systematic and rigorous inquiry, evidence-based practice and partnership to advancing public health and well-being for all ages in rural Indiana communities and (4) to facilitate development of models for supporting and strengthening rural community health and well-being.
